carburetor synchronization & jerking while acceleration

Post by Bambosz »

Hello guys

I have some questions about doldwing 1200 interstate (1984)

Some time ago I made carburetor synchronization like on that movie (base cuberator setting up the rest)

One question, why he has suction about 5 (psi, or something) while I have it about 2.5 ?
Is it correct ? Is there any "standard suction value" for that engine ?
Here are my settings before and after synchro.

Next question - suppose connected with synchronization:
What it can be- while driving, acceleration shifter turn a little - engine works smooth, while much acceleration everything is jerking like in old tractor ?
Suppose something is wrong with fuel /air mixture, but cant find out what. Can it be connected with that "to low" suction value (2.5 not 5) ?

Ah, my spark plugs are ... like weak coffee (as I know its mean all good)

Oh, and today after test... dont have strenght :/
Let's say you have "big" hill about 1 km lenght. I'm drive for about 800 meters and after that Honda stops and won't drive (even on 1st gear can't move - she don't have power)
I need to start her again, wait for a while (2-3 min) and I can go next distance.
Fuel pump ?

Best regards.

As i understand it the syncing of carbs is mainly for smooth idle and low rpm operation and has little or no effect on road speeds, first off change fuel filter then check fuel pump output volume referring to your book ,try that for start, and see how things go .new plugs would be a good idea after checking filter and fuel pump output, let us know how things go.

geraldm thanks for answer.

I found out what was and what is still wrong ;D

first thing was Fuel leak at the fuel valve (on the fuel tank).
Fuel pump suck fuel and air - and pump not enought fuel :/
This is why my motorcycle didn't have "power" while driving on hill. I remove fuel value, add new o-ring + new rubber gasket.
Now it's working. And what's strange my "suck value" now is about 5 (psi or Bar, or something) like it should be.

Problem I need still resolve is leaking curberator.
Not sure why but fuel float does not close fuel and it's going and going .... and spill over the 'spigot' (?)
What pump pushed everything goes to clinder (front right) ;D

I found which carberator leaks, and looks like fuel float is distorted.
I've changed place of values in two carburetors and it's still the same leaking - mean it's not value :/

This could explain why I loose half tank over 30 km drive, and why it "shoots" from the exhaust ;D

Bought new values - not much cost but some future problem solved (for a while).

+ need to set fuel level in carburetors :/

yea well sounds like you need carb rebuild kits also the engine will not produce proper VACUUM if the engine is running poor ,IMO you should not ride your bike until you have it running proper , if one carb is giving problems you should rework all , take your time and follow instructions and make sure you have proper spring clamps on all fuel lines and vacuum lines when finished , when carbs are working proper then sync and adjust to specs. Also change oil and filter as oil is probably contaminated with gasoline . Take your time and do proper or you will have further issues.

I'm not riding, I've remove carburetors and ... working.
Yesterday clean all pipes, nozzles, and "inside" carb.

Today is time to set up fuel level and if I have a luck tommorow new values will arrive.

Ok, problem was leaking fuel value in carbureator + locked cone valve
(that little thing on value, which should move up and down - mine was blocked).

Everything is folded - today test drive.

Ah, sorry.
Still working ;)

Problem gone. Some of them was because old values + setting the floats,
some because ... broken fuel pipe (inside fuel tank) pump was working good till tank was full, on half it's starts pump air and fuel ...

Now almost everything is good.
It has not enought fuel now. I add 0.5mm under needle but it's not enough. Still feal little "shake" while fast acceleration... I dont drive more than 2 -3k rpm ... and suppose will move needels up after that season.

Thanks for help guys.
IT'S WORKING AND RIDE !
