backfiring

Post by loopy »

I have a 1984 1200. The issue below has been with the bike since I purchased it 7 years ago.
Issue: Misfiring on acceleration. Touring speed is brilliant.
On deceleration engine backfires ( only started doing this in the last 3 months)
Over the past 6 years
regular change of spark plugs.
I have replaced leads and caps
Had needle and jets replaced in carbies..
Had carbies tuned with vacuum guage 3 times and all good.

Is it possible I have problem with timing belts or coil pack.

That's all I can think of.

Any suggestions please for a frustrated owner.?

Backfiring on deceleration out the exhaust can be caused by a bad air cutoff valve. Even though its for a GL1000 its the same in a 1200.
