84 Aspencade radio problems

Post by Sparky4017 »

On my 84 Aspencade the speakers were bad replaced them and it was fine road the bike today for the first time radio worked fine. About 30 minutes of riding it sounded like it was muted but the mute is not on you turn the volume up all the way very low output and hit the mute button and it mutes. Does this have a amp in it could that be the issue where is the amp this has the Panasonic radio. 8-)

The amp is in the left fairing pocket. I believe the bike also has auto volume adjust, it's supposed to raise the volume as you go faster and road noise gets louder, perhaps that feature is malfunctioning?

I recently bought a 86 Aspencade and the stereo was doing all kinds of odd things and the pots (potentiometers attached to the knobs) were scratchy. I took the stereo out and removed it's shell and cleaned the pots and the buttons with Deoxit D5. I also removed the box that holds the tone and auto volume knobs in the lower left side of the fairing. When you get it out there is a cover you can take off that gives you good access to the pots. Spray inside the pots as best you can with D5 and then work the stems back and forth to clean the contacts. My stereo works as new after a good cleaning.
