Voltage regulator/s

Post by infsold »

I have a 1984 Honda Goldwing 1200 Interstate with gauges( not digital). My fuel and coolant gauge maxed out and I have no headlight, turn signals ect. My research here says it's a voltage regulator. I have not been able to find a picture of the regulator and that being said can't seem to locate it on my bike. I had the bike disassembled for repairs and paint and did not remember seeing anything under the instrument cluster. Please help spring is here and I need to ride lol

if memory serves me it's under the faux tank on the left side under the removable tray beside the air filter
it's a small to medium sized box, corragated outer shell I think.

Haven't had the dash out of an Interstate, but heard about this issue. What you are looking for is the 7 volt regulator and I think it is behind the dash. Small box with three wires coming out of it.

Do be careful, there are 2 regulators on your bike, the big one is the main rectifier/regulator from the alternator!! That is NOT the regulator you are looking for, there is a smaller 7Volt regulator behind the instrument panel and that is the one you want.. Wingadmin sells replacement units if you need one.

Thanks for the help guys and it gals, I removed the front to look for the 7. Lot rectifier and there is nothing under the instrument panel that looks like it could be one. So again I am at a loss where this one is or what it looks like. Nothing resembling the main one is located under their , any additional help or clues would be much appreciated

If you remove the back of the center cluster (the one that has the warning lights on it) you'll find a small gold colored metal box screwed onto the back with three wires coming out of it. That's the 7 volt regulator.

That is not the dash from a GL1200 Standard - and the GL1200 Standard is the only version of the GL1200 that has a 7 volt regulator.

The GL1200 Standard dash looks like this:

Whatever is causing your problem is something quite different - and my guess is that you have a bad ground somewhere.
