GL1200 Swing Arm Right Side Pivot Bolt Removal

Post by stuntchimp »

Hello All,

OK - I'm trying to remove the swing arm to replace the final drive oil seal.

I got the left side pivot bolt out. However, the right side is causing me trouble. Question: Is the right side a reverse thread, cw to loosen? I have placed a 19mm wrench on the right side pivot bolt and jumped on it, both cw and ccw with no movement.

My Clymer manual is a little ambiguous stating "remove the right-hand and left-hand pivot bolts."

Thanks in advance...
Chuck

I think they're regular threads, ccw to loosen the locknut.

It has probably been in there a while, probably never taken out. Standard thread, CW to tighten, CCW to loosen. An impact gun works good.

Thanks for feedback - I wanted to make sure before I hook up an impact wrench.

OK - Its standard CCW to loosen. Bought a Harbor Freight 1" drive impact wrench and it spun off like it was finger tight.

I got it out okay but putting back in was a pain. How can one be sure it’s threaded all the way in? It appears to be as far in as it will go, but still spins. Ugh! :Ooops: :|
