fuel gravity feeding through carberators

Post by james moore »

I have an 87 GL1200A. went to start it and fuel was coming out the exhaust. fuel tank had emptied itself into the intakes on all four cylinders. had went through the carbs previously and made sure all of the floats and valves functioned properly. any suggestions on what may be causing this. never had this on my 1975.

Turn off petcock each time. You are fortunate not to have a bent rod. It happens, I unfortunately know. There may be another leak than your float valves.

Best way is to remove the rack, place it on a flat surface, remove four covers and slides, (careful with them, easy to tear the rubber, should keep them with their respective carb bodies) then hook up a fuel source and watch.

Lots of people have wasted their money on aftermarket float needles and seats. OEM Honda is best. I hate the feeling of tightening the seats and getting the aluminum crush washer tight enough, but failing to do this can allow fuel to slowly seep through the threads and around the valve.
