Starter Clutch Access Hole

Post by danxcook »

Hi all,

I've read the GL1000 thread for starter clutch squeal here viewtopic.php?t=12909 and was intrigued by this. I have the same problem on my GL1200 Standard. I've tried the seafoam/oil procedure and it helped, and it also seems to work well when warm. I'm considering boring a 20mm hole for access to spray and free up the muck that is binding it. I think a rubber plug would suffice or maybe a freeze plug.

Anyone else consider this? Done this?Thoughts?

Thanks!

I always find answers right after posting. The key was searching for "sprag clutch". Still wouldn't mind your opinions on the access hole idea.

Doesn't work on 1200s. You can drill the hole, but the rollers are not exposed from this angle. Ask my how I learned that. Not.
