Odd smell

Post by walker70 »

Hi,just got my wing back on the road and it runs really great but I have noticed an odd smell that I can't pin down, have ruled out electrical and fuel problems,it does not always smell but I have thought that maybe since I just put it back together it may be the new exhaust gaskets or new gaskets on the front cover,I have noticed it when I first got this bike and it went away, don't know how to describe what it smells like tho.

I had a couple ideas based on my problems-

once my Aspy smelled like maple syrup- bad head gasket

once it smelled like burnt toast- dog kibble packed into the pipes by cold mice

I've had the burning oil smell a few times from the breather hose coming off and a little engine oil getting on the block

to get rid of the oil I sprayed it down while running with Simple Green

now when I run it, it smells like simple green

It's an older bike, opposed boxer, so oil may pool in the cylinder when shut down for the night- 10 minutes of riding gets that over with
