GL1200AH 1987 Panasonic RM-1350E

Post by CH-Biker 1200AH »

Hello everyone,

I have some problems with my "Panasonic Radio and Tape" device for my GL1200AH.The mainproblem is: I can't use the tape function anymore- it always changes from side A to B and from B to A constantly. I also bought a second Panasonic Radio and Tape device but it still doesn't work. (Model of the Panasonic Radio is "RM-1350E). It also changes the "sides" if the Remote-Switch (handlebar) is disconnected.
My question, Does anyone have a completed service Manual of the RM-1350E, with a schema?

Thanks for your attention! I hope someone can help me. :D

I believe you've solved the problem. If the switch is disconnected, and it switches, then the switch must need to be normally closed. Try closing the circuit and see if it is cured, if so the switch needs to be cleaned or replaced.

Hello julimike 54,
thank you for your quick reply. If the switch is normally closed, why is the function in radio operation normally? When I opened the switch, I could see the contact only as normally open. It is a very simple change-over circuit which does not make contact in the non-actuated state.
Now both radio tape suddenly no longer work. The remote switch is reconnected.
I used an MP3 player in tape form to listen to music.
That don't work since a few days now.
But both radios are still going.
And with the remote switch it is still possible to change the channel.

These Panasonics are really old ... about 30 years . I have spent many hours, fiddling with mine, trying to get it back to 100%.
I think that about every 5 or 6 years, us GL1200 owners should just bite the bullet and send it in to Sierra.

If you have eliminated the switch as a problem, then its a well spent $125 . On mine this device is for the radio / tape/ MP3 with the tape adapter and CB, as well as front seat / back seat comm..... It has a lot of jobs .

If I could find a modern radio from Radio shack or Best Buy that did most of these tasks, it would be replaced in a flash.

For lack of a better explanation the tape mechanism is out of time and this is normally due to the small nylon drive gear is split or out of alignment.

+1 on Sierra. When you give up, send it in to them. The handlebar switch on mine doesn't perform all functions, it needs to be replaced or disassembled and cleaned (its been that way for a while. doesn't interfere with riding so low priority).

Hello everybody,
Thank you for your good tips.

Meanwhile, I was able to repair the tape.
The main belt was broken. It took me about 1 hour to find the problem and refix the belt.
I had to use a new belt with a diameter of 100mm to make it work again.
