1985 aspencade stem bearings..

Post by RexCaron »

i knew to goldwings and this site but so far i have found everything ive seen very helpful. ive owned a 1985 aspencade for about 2 years. spent a year trying to get it to stop over heating. thats fixed. now i have a question about steering stem bearings. its got an obvious speed wobble but ive read thats due to a crappy front tire. it has a crappy front tire so thats what its getting right now. but i have noticed if i have the air ride jacked up about 3/4 it has a bang to it when hitting a bump. air it down and it take a much larger bump to get the noise.. any ideas?? and right now i have it jacked up and the front wheel off i cant feel that the bearin is loose. thanks again.

Here is information on steering stem bearings, symptoms and fix. http://archives.wingworldmag.com/apr200 ... rings.html

If you don't know or was not told that the steering stem bearings were changed, it is after all, 33 years since the OEM bearings were installed. A set of All Ball bearings is in the $30.00 range. Just did mine. The lower bearing was well past the best before date. Small cost for great piece of mind.

Lots of information on this forum regarding this work.

Cheers
