Rear wheel / final drive.

Post by Jdavey1989 »

Hello everyone. I have a 1984 goldwing aspencade gl1200 and I took the rear tire off to get a new one put on. I go to put it back on the bike and it seems like I can't get the tire to slide onto the gear in the final drive housing. There is about an 1/8 inch gap of clean metal on the wheel where you can see where the housimg previously sat. Am I missing something? The axle is in and tightened down but nothing is happening. In the picture the wheel is on the left.

Ill try to paint a mental picture lol. You have the final drive housing and this plastic ring that is bolted to that. When I try to slide the wheel on there is about an 1/8 inch gap of clean metal on the wheel between the wheel and that plastic ring.

Check to make sure you have the wheel spacers in correctly. Should be spacer then brake bracket then spacer. One spacer on each side of bracket. Don,t ask me how I know this.

The spacers are correct. Its just when I got to slide the tire onto the housing. It will not go on all the way.

Problem solved. The slip yoke slid off of the output shaft.

The reason I ask is this post http://classicgoldwings.com/forum/viewt ... 24&t=11500 and no definite answer. Nothing has gone wrong either.

Mine is the same way. I didn't notice it until I washed the wheel before the new tire was put on. No issues with mine either.
