pulse generators

Post by walker70 »

Hi,a question about the pulse generators,I have a 1986 goldwing to ride and have a 1984 parts bike, according to the 84 shop manual the pulse generators for that year are at the rear of the engine and the ones for the 86 are on the front, was just wondering if you could put the ones on the 84 1200 at the front like the 86,you know by modification or what,I know if you could you would need to put ones on it from an 86 or later model 1200. :D

you can't use the one from an 84. it won't fit, but, you could use This. Honda 30300-ML8-680 GENERATOR, PULSE is used on these models and components:
1985 GL1200A A FRONT COVER + TIMING BELT TIMING BELT
1985 GL1200A AC FRONT COVER + TIMING BELT TIMING BELT
1985 GL1200I A FRONT COVER + TIMING BELT TIMING BELT
1985 GL1200I AC FRONT COVER + TIMING BELT TIMING BELT
1986 GL1200A A FRONT COVER
1986 GL1200A AC FRONT COVER
1986 GL1200I A FRONT COVER
1986 GL1200I AC FRONT COVER
1987 GL1200A A FRONT COVER
1987 GL1200A AC FRONT COVER
1987 GL1200I A FRONT COVER
1987 GL1200I AC FRONT COVER

Go onto Partzilla.com and type the number 30300-ML8-680 into the search box and it will bring up a group of parts, left click on the first one in the grouping and it pull up a photo of the pulse generator so you can see what it looks like. it is a double pulse unit. you can cut one side off leaving enough wire to use the other one if the one you're using fails. make sure to tape up the side you cut off so it doesn't create a short circuit. sometimes you can get lucky and find a used one on ebay for a reasonable price also.

stuart.

I bought a set of PGs with that part number from Partsfish.com a couple of weeks ago for about $75, but you can go where you like. It comes as a harness and goes to a single 4-pin plug, so I'd not recommend cutting it all up just to use one side.

In checking for the pulse generators on the 84 goldwing I have as a parts bike it looks like whoever owned it before me may have put another engine in it because the pulse generators are on the front like on my 86,so that is cool, although the wire harness is running through it differently :D
