Cough when coasting

Post by 17brpeterson1 »

Hi, I am new to this forum and my "new to me" GL 1200.

When I let off the throttle completely when I am coming to a stop , so I can let the bike coast in OD or whatever gear I am in (it does not matter), I will get a couple of coughs backfiring thru the carbs, then I can smell a whiff of gas afterwards.
I'm not engine braking or anything, I'm just letting the throttle go and keeping in gear.
Otherwise the bike runs excellent no problems what so ever.
Only does this when I let off the throttle.

Is this normal on these bikes?

This could be caused by an air leak or the air cut-off (auto enrichment) valve not 'doing its thing'. It could be stuck or have a split in the diaphragm.
Ironically, Common Sense is the LEAST common of all senses!
