Tow behind trailer, dim led turn signal

Post by mryan60 »

I have a real nice trailer that I pull with my 1985 Goldwing Limited. The problem is that the turn signals barely work. Less than 1/2 of the leds light up and then only dimly. The led stop and tail lights work fine. I ran a strip of leds all around the trailer (marker lights), they work fine. The stador has been replaced with a poorboy alternator, and it putting out a steady 14 volts. Any ideas?

What sort of connector and adapter do you have ? a 4 into 1 ? and a common 4 pin connector ?
The connectors are cheap ( Like $8 for a pair )
.... and they are not forever things ...

I would start with cutting out and soldering in new 4 pin connectors on both trailer and bike .

Then if you still have low voltage , track back to the " 6-into-4" or "5-into-4" box .
Mine was located under the seat and had very shoddy connections..
Cut, clean , solder and shrink wrap will do a lot .

And the third place to look is in the actual wiring from the trailer tongue to the trailer lights . When they are built trailers are not wired nearly as well as your bike is . I found three " iffy" connections inside my trailer . when I had a one side only flicker .

A Lot of manufactures use those worthless (squeeze ) with a pair of pliers connectors and more often than not that is the issue , no moisture proofing . just a shame .
