self canceling signal lights on the 86 gl.

self cancelling signals on my 86 gl. no problems with them working . everything is fine , My issue is when on the highway and wanting to make a turn , If there is a car coming up behind , if I put the signal on at a reasonable early time to tell the car behind my intentions , I need to turn the signals on 2 or 3 times before I make my turn or they self cancel. my question is , is there a timer to do this job that can be adjusted some how or is it the computer that deals with the cancel , as far as the self cancel goes for accelerating its fine and I like that option but not for before the turn , ?? cant seem to find much info on this . thanks Gerald ..

So don't know of an adjustable timer, I just keep pushing the turn button every so often. I'll be watching..........
