REAR SHOCK recommendations please

Post by JulianR »

Hello All, bike is an 86 1200i with 67000 miles.
My rear shocks have always held 50psi. The other day I heard a "pop" and now the air bleeds out within a few hours.
My research could not find if these shocks can be rebuilt? So I"m thinking of just replacing them.
Would appreciate the groups experience with replacement shocks.
The progressive air shocks (416's) are too expensive at $489.00 . The non air 412's are about $270.00. I saw some no name replacements on ebay for $150.00 /pair. Has anyone fitted these??

Also, Has anyone found any non goldwing specific shocks that work well? The groups advice on replacement Timing belts (14.00 NAPA vs 60.00 OEM) and Radiator hoses (12.00 at NAPA vs 37.00 OEM) are just some recent examples I can thank the group for.

I've done a search on rebuilding these units, but it appears parts are not available? This seems strange, am I mistaken here? I would love to have mine rebuilt as I'm all about keeping things stock and original. And as I started with, I was happy with the original shocks set at 50psi.
As always, thanks in advance..

You really can't go wrong with 416's, some people prefer the 412's because they are a bit stiffer. Depends on what your personal preference is.
