Air Ride Compressor power

Post by geraldm »

On the 86 gl1200 air ride system the compressor is prevented to activate it seems when in gear , as it is suppose to work. what would need to be done to have this option activate when on the road. Is it controlled by the neutral switch or ??

I think the whole point is to keep both hands on the steering wheel. :o I think it would be a mistake to mess with the suspension while operating the vehicle. IMHO.

From the service manual. The air adjustment should always be done while on the centerstand. In other words adjustment is not done while riding.

I always do an automatic leveling while riding, it will do it standing still idling
and you can manually adjust it both ways, if you touch the brake levers it will shut
off the compressor. I just use the auto level and let it do its thing

i dont believe i have auto level . what and how does that work.thanks for your reply .I see you have the SEI. thats probably an option . I usually run with no air , just want to be able to adjust on the go. . just going to build a separate system with relay .

my sei has an auto level feature on it, just flip the switch and it
auto levels the bike as long as you are not on the brakes.

Ebay,
epoxy,
or just ditch it, replace with Schrader valve, and use gas sta air.

That is a solution, but don't use gas station air! The volume of air supplied by powered compressors can blow out your seals in an instant. Use a hand-powered bicycle pump instead - you won't blow out the seals, and it only takes a stroke or two with the hand-powered pump to fill them. Plus you have a lot more control over exactly how much pressure you're putting in.
