1984 Aspencade digital display
New bike to me, bought used and noticed digital display works, but, does not light up at night. Are there light bulbs behind it that provide illumination. 2nd problem-taillight out lite is on on dash, but no tailights. are they controlled by a fuse? Turn signals and brake lights work. Thanks in advance.

yep there are bulbs behind the display which are on all the time when ignition is on and bike is going. changing the bulb means getting in behind the display I would suggest a manual before attempting, also some folks changer them to led when they are in there.
before you go down that track though, check the fuses they are situated under the false tank, this maybe all it is.
the red brake light on the dash, is a warning light that should go out when all is working properly, so its either a blown bulb, fuse, or wiring issue.
