Help! Having clutch issues and trying to limp my bike home.

Years ago I had a 1984 Aspencade. I sold it when I was transferred to the east coast. I recently moved back to the west coast and purchased that same bike from the person I sold it to. It had been sitting in there garage for several years.

At first, it was fine, but I began having issues with the clutch not disengaging. I could barely get it to shift by matching RPM and it would kill it as I came to a stop. I couldn't get it into neutral at all. I limped it to the Honda dealership. They said the line was "gummed up". They flushed the line and put new fluid in it. I worked fine after that. Now it's doing it again, and I'm stuck because I started commuting to work on it.

Obviously something else needs addressed. Would it most likely be the clutch cylinder needing a rebuild or am I missing something.

How long ago was it flushed out or bled? Might be time to redo and consider rebuilding the calibers, perhaps installing new brake lines, and cleaning the master cylinder.

I would say that flushing the line and brake caliper and brake cylinder did not clean them up well enough. Was me, I would clean up the caliper and brake cylinder, rebuild or replace if necessary, and definitely replace the line. The Honda dealer put a bandaid on your problem is all they did. I bet the clutch, and brake fluid has not been changed since you sold that bike "years ago".

I was able to get it home and flush the clutch line. All appears to be well right now. I will continue to drive it and see if the problem returns.

The fluid was a little low in the reservoir. Apparently I was unsuccessful trying to post pics from the side of the road.

when I got my 86 sei I was having clutch non releasing issues
found the clutch master low on fluid, filled pumped a dozen or
so time and was fine for about 2 weeks then happens again,
so I decided to rebuild the slave cyl, I couldn`t find leaks any
where on the sys, got it done and again it fails again this time
happening more often, found the rubber hose to the slave cly
had deteriorated to the point of leaking pressure when I tried
to disengage the clutch, replaced the line and all is well.

Yep, the clutch hoses would be one of the first places to check and due to the age of em, strongly consider replacing them.

If that doesn't give you a "JOY" result, check the "return" line in the master cylinder. The bike sitting for some time, old fluid can cause "gunk" to build up and cause the clutch to act up. The return line is under the shiny silver "tab" in the master cylinder. Gently pry the tab up/off and gently probe the hole to make sure its clear of solid gunk. A repeat of new fluids afterward would be the final step.

If the bikes has been sitting for a while you may want to clean the clutch slave as well. Only needs a couple of parts. Lots of crud collects in it.
