so after sorting everything else on my 84 aspy, i went for a shake down run.
and i think the clutch maybe almost done.
neutral is a b to find hot running,
and if you put the screws to it, it seems to slip at peak power after an upshift.
the lever moves maybe a 1/4 from no lever pull before it quickly starts to slip/release
Engine oil can affect clutch performance, do you know what is in the crankcase now? Try an oil change first. Many prefer the synthetic oils, Shell Rotella T6 Diesel oil is one of them, it has no friction modifiers (good for wet clutch) and Walmart sells it for a good price.
A local inventor has figured a way to turn a sausage grinder backward to manufacture pigs.

It's also possible the clutch master cylinder has a plugged pressure return port. The clutch normally releases a bit over half way of the full stroke of the lever.
As the bike gets warmed up,hydraulic pressure builds and actually pushes the clutch piston in a bit.
There should be about 3/8" free travel in the lever...nice and smooth..then you feel the clutch lever get firm as it pushes against the clutch pack.If your lever is firm right away, clean the master cylinder port out...flush all the fluid out with new fluid. The Port I mention is under the resavoyer...maybe 3/16" in front of the main hole. Its very tiny too.Smaller than a sewing needle.
Dontcha think it would be a good idea to put in a can of seafoam and ride it a bit before you change it to help flush out the "bad" oil stuff??? posting.php?mode=reply&f=5&t=40312#
i cleaned out the master, fluid was browm. found the tiny return hole, and for the first few pulls the clutch engagement it where it should be, but (i think) gets father away from the bar as it gets hotter. im gonna do a full flush after i get a new seal, because low and behold i also have an oil leak downstairs, and it seem to be the inner pushrod seal for the clutch. ive already seen the how to's to pull the clutch out in frame and the associated seals, so it shouldnt be too hard.. will keep yall posted
seals, were meh, the slave was all sorts of gunked up... and the frictions looked a lil thin...
rebuilt the slave, flushed it, and installed a new set of frictions.. 1000 mi later (to season the clutch) this old girl is a missle!
