Barn find fuel issue

Post by vppalin »

I have a 1987 1200 Aspencade that has been sitting for 10 years give or take. Engine good. Timing belts replaced. I can get it to start with starting fluid sprayed in the breather. The fuel pump is pumping fuel so I assume all is well with the relay and pump, but it won’t start without the starting fluid or run after the fluid evaporates, any ideas? Oh. Fresh fuel added and no noticeable rust in the tank or in the outflow from the pump. I also replaced the fuel filter

Plugged jets in the carbs - may need a rebuild - or just a good clean out... sitting for that long it should be a planned job - just like the timing belts.

Do it once - do it properly and enjoy the benefits of years of riding - trouble free - fingers crossed :)

There are instructions how to remove and clean/rebuild the carbs, for 'oldwings' you may find informative. But you will need to remove the carburetors off the bike first, then synchronize them after reinstalling them back on the bike.

Best of luck.

Randakk's has a 1200 carb repair guide that goes from carb removal, rebuild, reinstall and sync.

https://www.randakks.com/honda-gl1200-g ... guide.html

Or combo kit repair guide and rebuild kit together.

https://www.randakks.com/gl1200-combo-offer.html

Good luck whatever you decide.
