1984 1200a wiring
1984 1200a wiring
Hi. I'm currently having issues with my gl1200 wiring harness. I don't have the fairing or any other accessories that went along with it (digital gauges, air compressor, radio, none of it), and just have a basic bike now. My issue is the rats nest of wiring underneath the false tank. Is there a good diagram I can use to re wire the whole bike without all the extras that came with the bike when stock. All I really need is the lights, horns, and the ignition system right? All knowledge is always welcomed. Thanks!

You will have a hard time finding what you are looking for. Probably the closest thing to it will be the 84 Standard diagram, but you will need to be comparing both to see what needs to be removed from your 84A harness.

Do you plan on making your own wiring harness or using some of the OEM wiring.?
Everything is color coded.

I would like to take the easiest route to do it. I'd prefer to make my own harness so I can make it all clean instead of using the stock mess of a harness and having extra wires everywhere. I'd I have a diagram to go off of that would be extremely helpful I stead of just winging it. No pun intended. Lol.

Out of the three different manuals on the market, I like using the diagrams from the Haynes (I think) manual the most. They aren’t colored and if you print them large enough, they are easy enough to track.

I MUCH prefer the Clymer manual :
https://www.ebay.ca/itm/Clymer-Shop-Rep ... 48a7490223
My manual has both the Aspy and interstate colour diagrams
The coloured wiring diagram matches the wire colours, and has enough space , between components so I can easily modify the diagram for things I have added , like :
taillight flashers, LED's , louder horns, cooling fan switch, and HID headlight exciter box .
It may be online somewhere , for free.
( Mine came with my bike )
