Cranks, won't start.

Post by Kt2448 »

Hi all. I have an 84 gl1200a that won't start. I just had the motor out for the pulse generator and I've triple checked everything to make sure that it's back together correctly, and it is. My fuel pump is good, but I have a weak spark. It's not blue and defined like the repair book says, it's orange and dim. My battery is charged, and I've even spark check with the jumper cables hooked to my pick up truck. Still I have the same issue. As far as I know all the solenoids are fine, if they weren't I'm guessing there would be no spark at all. Is there anything inside the motor that us a common failure kind of part, or am I missing something? Any and all knowledge shared is always appreciated.

You have weak spark but at least it's some so everything is working. You may have bad coils or it could be the resistors in the plug caps are burned out, check the resistance from 1 to 2 and 3 to 4.

Thanks for the info, I appreciate it. As electrical diagnosis isn't my strong suit, do i check resistance at the coils, or the plugs caps?
