Steering head bottom bearing removal/race removal

Got everything down and out ready to go back together except for an easy way to get the bottom bearing off the triple ,the way the shop manual says is to put the triple tree in a vise to knock it off so either I am not holding my mouth right or something,it will not budge,also need an easy way to get the races out of my 86 Goldwing,the method in the manual won't work cause there is not enough lip on the race to catch,I am looking at buying the otc #4796 race puller,does anyone know if it will for top and bottom,thanks.

Two wedges of steel(pry bars) will work for the ones I have done. The triple tree is the fulcrum, a thicker plastic piece will protect it.

Thanks for the idea,but I found a way to get them out,what I did was take an old style lug wrench and cut off the end with the elbow then sharpened the other end with my grinder so it would catch the edge of the race,it got them out in about five minutes and no damage to the steering head,Yea.

Got mine out on a CX500 Turbo with a large screw driver with a smashed handle, bent the tip over in the vice by applying some heat and it had enough lip on it to hammer the race out.

Hi,finally got back around to working on putting the steering stem back on,as far as putting that lower bearing on I took it to a local shop that I do business with and they put the new bearing and seal on for $15.00 so I didn't have fuss with it myself,the only tool I bought for the rest of the work was the Motion Pro race installer and man did it work great,now since I have the bike apart I am going to see about having it painted,that is if I can get my son in law to get some free time to do it,one thing I know that I am no good at is painting and he does it for living.
