engine bogging down

My bike seems to idle and rev fine but when I'm riding and want to pick up speed I kick down a gear and twist the throttle and it boggs down.It feels like the engine" flutters".If I let off the throttle and lightly get back on it the "fluttering"isn't as bad and the bike will gradually pick up speed. I believe it might need a carb job.If this is what it needs ,where would I find carb kits for this bike? Any info would be appreciated,Thanks

If it idles and revs fine in neutral just sitting in the driveway, that kind of rules out an ignition problem to me. If it wasn't getting a good spark, it would cut out at high revs sitting in the driveway not just on the road. If it bogs down when riding and rolling on throttle, that points me more toward a carburetor problem. Sounds like a "main" system issue where you are not getting enough fuel to match the increased air flow coming in when the throttle is cracked open. Could be partially plugged main jets or air bleeds, or even a problem with the vacuum chamber diaphragms. If they are leaking the whole CV (constant velocity) carb function will be messed up and fuel won't be metered properly to match air flow through the carbs.

Note that this could also be another type of fuel starvation problem. If your gas cap vent is plugged up and creating a vacuum in the gas tank, or if your fuel filter is so plugged up that you can't get full fuel flow, or your fuel pump is not pumping at full flow, that could cause the same symptom when riding the bike on the road. So "why would it run fine in the driveway if that's the cause" you ask. Because the bike will run in the drive way for as long as five minutes or more with just the fuel that's in the carb fuel bowls.

So, look for fuel starvation issues not caused by the carbs first, then rebuild the carbs if that's all OK.
