Changing Handlebar Controls to Harley Style buttons

Post by awinterton »

Hi everybody.

I have an 85 gl1200i that I've modified to be naked. Its been 2 years in the process. I recently put on a new handlebar without realizing the old bar tapered towards the ends... oh well, I was planning on replacing the controls anyway. So I did, with the newer harley push button style from drag specialties. The old ones were all smashed up as the po apparently laid the bike down pretty hard. I've got everything working except the turn signals which are separate left and right momentary pulse buttons. To adapt the momentary pulse style of the new buttons I added a dual coil latching relay which selects either the left or right side signals and activates the flasher relay. What I can't figure out is how the turn signal canceler works. The old switch you could push in and it would cancel; got that part figured out but i don't want to have to manually cancel my turn signals after every turn. I'm not sure if the self canceling ever worked as my riding has been limited due to the restoration and conversion process. How does it normally work? Is it a sensor that just grounds out the flasher relay? I've discovered the 2 wires which turn the flasher relay on and off when applied with a charge and can do it manually, but haven't figured out how the bike kicks off the relay (ie... which wires or even the basic operation). Any suggestions?

Xs two! Due to my conversion to a 2F1R Trike, that part of my turn system is now non-exsistant. I don't wanna be cancelling my signals every turn I take. But my canceller thing-a-majig is laying on the workbench, not in the bike. Had to remove it 'cause the new steering system we used can't use it. I quote my esteamed college above, "any suggestions?"

I know this is a super old thread. But how did you wire the 4 way flashers?
