NO SOUND FROM RADIO

Post by roadwanderer2 » Sun Mar 25, 2018 10:18 am

So, there i was riding my bike down the road listening to my stereo when suddenly my radio speakers quit. the radio was still on and i could change all the stations, but no sound out of any of the 4 speakers. Anyone have an idea why this happened? Is there a fuse that powers the speakers somewhere on the bike?

The power amplifier is separate from the radio - so the radio can operate even if the amplifier is not. You might want to check that it has power. Also check the auto volume: viewtopic.php?t=5290

Do you have audio in the headset?

Hey there Wingadmin, thanks for your reply. Hope your doing well and keeping warm up there in the northeastern part of the country. I have checked the auto-volume, the "mute" on/off, no headset to deal with because i don't have any of the plug-in connectors. The amp i haven't checked yet. That'll be my next "quest" on my "to-do" list. I'll also take a look at the link you posted along with your reply.

One thing that i did notice, a few weeks ago the sound coming from the rear speakers was very "statisticy" and not very loud almost to the point that i had to put the "joy stick" for the speakers almost totally for the rear to get the sound to come out of the back speakers. Now i have no sound at all from either the front or the rear speakers.

Stuart.

Hey Wingadmin, I have been looking at various threads to troubleshoot my stereo (same symptoms: radio appears to be working fine but no sound). I have isolated it to a fried power amplifier when I came across your post about bypassing the amplifier. Can you please explain the wiring modifications (maybe a diagram) that I would need to make? I would like to operate the radio while I am waiting to get a replacement amplifier. Thanks!

I just said that the amplifier was separate from the radio:

What the pinouts are in the DIN connectors, and how and at what level the signals need to be sent, I have no information on.

If it is the GL1500 the amplifier is internal to the radio.

Under left side pocket, you'll find where Auto Vol unit gets power and there are two 5 pin DIN connectors, just unhook and connect bike ends of DIN s together (male-female), thus bypassing A-V unit. I have had Sierra Electronics in Troy Ohio fix mine, was a bad solder joint last time. They also once refurbished my Type III radio. Fast, Excellent communications, tech called while working on radio.

Thanks all for the replies: The bike is an 84 1200 Aspencade. I do understand bypassing the auto volume is no problem. However, I think I just misunderstood WingAdmins comment about the radio still operating without the amplifier to imply you could bypass it as well and still drive the speakers. I have ordered a replacement amplifier and should be back in service after it arrives. Thanks again for all the quick responses!
