Shinko 230 or 777 and balancer stuff????

hi all
i will need 2 new tires,
i was thinking goig Darkside but have read a lot ,,i will not not go finally because of my 1200 rear rim mostly.
Now i am switching between the Shunko 230 or 777 for the GL1200,
Which one would you take?

i dont drive speedy,,just like an old man now,,like a grandpa BUT sometime i can accelerate more rapidly but
most of the time i will ride safely.

And i heard about some stuff that you fill the tires and they balanced themself,is it good?
i never try that,
Should i take off the rims the weights that are there now??

i will be waiting your advise for the tires because buying at fort,,,,,canada

The other stuff that you can use is Ride On Tire Sealant and Balancing formula. This is totally different from the Green Slime you may read about. It is not messy and balances tires well. Have Michelin Commander II tires on my '85 LTD. Presently just over 23,000 Kms and looking like at least 40 to 50 percent tread remaining. Keep at 40-41 PSI and use Ride On Tire Sealant and Balancing formula. Will be putting Shinko Tourmaster tires on the '85 LTD in Ontario before riding it out here to Victoria. Will also maintain 40-41 PSI and use the Ride On formula as well. have read where the Shinko Tourmaster rear tire easily goes in excess of 15,000 miles (24,000 Km). Bought the Shinko tires at Fortnine with free shipping - approximately $220.00 CDN plus tax.

i read in majority good reports so far myself,
Dunlop are too $ for my retired budjet .

Dyna Bead for balancing since here the small motor and atv store is not equipped too balance these tires.

we are still in winter time here in th East Ernest,we are going to have another winterstorm today and tomorrow.

I have used Shinko Tourmaster 230 for a couple of years. They are great tires for wet roads. I do ride a bit fast and they handle very well. The front tire has about 18,000 kilometres on it and is about half worn out. I replaced the rear tire at about 12,000 kilometres. They do give a comfortable ride. I will keep on using them as the price is right and if I have to replace the rear tire every year or so I will be able to moly the drive flange more often....

To balance your tires, beads or the Ride On formula. Both go in through the valve stem.

Good to know about the Shinko Tourmaster tires. Checked out the price for the Michelin Commander II tires - come in about $150.00 CDN more than the Shinko Tourmaster from Fortnine - nice tires and ride well.

Both tires front/rear are close to $400.00. The Shinko Tourmaster front/rear $230.00 - before taxes of course. I tend to change both at the same time.

finally i baught 2 Shiko and order
2 #2 onces of the ,,,Dyna Bead stuff
they are in Quebec.


i made an error when buying at fortnine,,
i ordered 2 rear tires,,i made an error in FRONT tire,,
i hope they are quick on emails message i advised them of MY error.


will see when it will arrive,
i was able to find 2 Michelin special tools too dismantle tires,they are 2 24 inch long flat metal,express built to dismantle motorcyle tires.
i never seen that in Canada

the last two tires I have installed on my gl1200 have
been the shinko 230, I get one season out of them and
they are wore out, outside of the short life they are
decent tires. I'm going to the dark side this year,
with a nanking 165/80r15.

i could not find the Nexen sb802 here,only in the US and with the exchange and ,,,it was not avantageous for me.
The fact also that the rear rim of the 1200 is "special" in his design also made me re-think.

Darkside work great for the other GW as i have read BUT the 1200 is special and i was not prepare to risk my life of my xyl when she's with me.

Darkside is personnal choice!

i have read mostly good report for the Shinko 230 in general,it is an honest tire,,,not a Michelin but a honest tire.

i received my front and rear Shinko 230 and installed them myself,
and some Dyna Beads in the same occasion so i did not need to go at a shop to balenced them.

i install the tire using these lever i baught in France

these are super,if you can buy a set and you will never regret it,
they work superbely and i have changed many tires in my life.

now i am re installing all the rear wheel and others tomorrow.
