The markings are cast in the plastic housing, but still could be back-asswards

It is a 30 amp circuit that is connected to the battery terminal of the starter solenoid and provides power to the main CFI relay and a couple of others.

You mention that the engine starts and runs when the start button is pressed. I'm thinking that when the new starter solenoid was installed this wire may be connected to the starter terminal instead of the battery terminal.
As mentioned.Do verify that both red and white wires have power with the key off.

Is it possibly simply not the correct solenoid?

If where the red and red/white wires are connected are not where they should be we would have to either posh the wires out of the connector to the correct position or cut and solder the wires.
It seems to me if that were the case we would be better off trying to obtain the correct solenoid if possible

If the one that was on it was an aftermarket it may have already been rewired, as I said earlier. Real easy to check, as described earlier. The wires are easy to get out of the connector, there are small slots beside the terminals you push a small tool into to release the clip, there is one made for that, a dental pick or tiny screwdriver. You do have the correct one.

Tim tried swapping the wires for the battery and and starter and said he got no function at all

So next he is planning on checking the terminals to verify that the red/red striped wires have 12 volts present
If that does not turn out to be the issue I have no clue where to go next
