Here are some pics. of the beginning works of my 1986 sei project bike.Have begun the detailing,
and have tested starter by bypassing and all's good there. Motor spun great after letting MMO
sitting in cylinders a week. Fuel pump tested and working. Checked Trans in 1st gear and hand spun motor and rear wheel turned, put back in neutral and spun again and rear wheel didn't move so all seems good there. Have almost completed detailing from front of gas tank back. No gasket
between rear swing arm and final drive which is why I believe oil and grease has coated the swingarm. Tested removing rust from exhaust by using aluminum foil dipped in water and rubbing
which easily removed and cleaned up rust as the pictures show. Once I complete all cleaning I
will start replacing many parts starting from the rear and working my way forward. Gas tank was full
and inside looks great. Removed radiator and anti-freeze looked brand new. I am feeling confident
in bringing this baby back to life. Have ordered a few parts to begin and will purchase as this project moves forward. Bottom line is I will do whatever it takes to restore her. This is one great FORUM with some great people and have learned so much in the last 2 months. Will keep updated as I move

[Rusty Bike]

There is no gasket between the FD and the drive shaft tube. Oil in there probably came from the FD coupling. There is a flying seal on the drive shaft that keeps the FD gear lube in the cup to shaft jiont. Good luck...

Thanks a million Rusty Bike for that information on my thoughts about a gasket on the swingarm and
final drive. will have to replace that seal on the long shaft that fits into the u joint. Hopefully I can
locate it easily. Have begun ordering parts to have ready when detailing is done. Have cleaned up many
parts on this machine and have many hours of labor already with a long way to go yet but am enjoying it
all so far. I know the headaches will come when I get to the point of trying to fire her up as she sat 8 years
in a dark garage with no TLC. Electrics are not my Forte but have mechanical skills. Found a place that does
VINTAGE restorations by me and when I told them I had an 86' Aspencade sei he laughed and said that's not
Vintage to some old Harleys they have done total restorations on. So I'm feeling pretty good about when the
time comes to fire her up, and if I can't get her going I'll just send her in. Thanks for the Good Luck!!! I'm
