Another Stereo upgrade

I just bought this gl1200i a few weeks back and after running over a porcupine and changing the timing belts, wheel bearings, synching the carbs and getting a smoothly running machine I went exactly 14.3 miles before my speedometer cable promply quit on me (and after ONLY 110,000 miles no less... bah!). I figured hey while I'm in there taking out the gauge cluster and all that I might as well upgrade the headlight to an hid unit and replace the stereo and speakers, Too. I've seen a lot of people tentively curious about doing the same wondering about the specifics of what equipment will work and while I didn't document nearly enough for a Diy I thought I would share what products I went with and show the final result.

Equipment:
I went with a non-cd playing marine unit due to the smaller depth so that the harness and connections at the end would be nice and clean and not shoved in a rats nest. here is a link to what I used (sony DSX-M55BT)

for speakers there wasn't a great deal of information about what the originals are and what would fit in their place so I took a leap of faith and went for these hoping they would fit behind the grills... and they fit like a glove ( polk db401 )

the HID unit I bought completely on faith, there is no spec sheet on what size connectors they have, where they will fit and whether the harness will be long enough but this one worked with only the additions of 3ft of ground and battery lead wires spliced on. I used a 1ince hole saw at an angle from the handlebars to create a pass-through from under the left cubby to the headlight, gauge cluster and stereo. this is where I mounted the ballast and patched all the stereo wires to run to ground and power. then I simply *shoved* the extra harness and leads into the fairing and replaced the cubby and the rest is history.

I sincerely apologize for not documenting the process more extensively but since I spent most of the process in a suspended state of panic and doubt I didn't stop to take a lot of pictures. please don't hesitate to ask questions, I am extremely satisfied with the end result of this! link to video:

The link to the stereo says:
Passenger Control for iPhone and iPod devices.
What does this mean?
Can you simply plug an ipod into the usb on the front of the radio, then control the usb with the radio controls/remote?
Like hide the ipod?
I do that in my Yukon and LOVE it.

in this case what it means is that when you have an ipod (I believe android operates in both of these modes simultaneously) plugged into the USB you can change the default from stereo controlled (ipod "hidden") by press and holding on the MODE button which will put the music control back onto the ipod screen so that a passenger can operate it via the ipod.
