Giving up on it

So guys based on the money I already spent on my wing, what I need to spend, and what I will eventually spend inthe future I've decided to cut my losses.

Gonna buy a new harley (sorry) today. So i was wondering if anyone wants to buy my wing. Someone who has the time and want to have a project bike. Overall it's not in the worst shape and can probably be fully fixed.

It's that or ill be trading it in.

Can’t fault you. Fixen or Riden, is an easy choice for most. If you dont enjoy the former, then you got to go for something new that the dealership will fix, if it breaks.

An old Wing is worth next to nothing and most dealers here wont take it as a trade in unless they rob you in the purchase. Like most things, strip away the emotion and its worth what someone will pay.

Probably best to list it as for sale with pictures and a price as well as what is isn't doing.

Sorry to hear that....you didn't say how many
miles are on the bike OR whats wrong, but there is
a point-of-no-return on these bikes. I have
an '87, but now it runs like a top. I know I will
never recover the dollar-worth of parts and time
I have put into it, yet, because I have done the
work - I know what I have, and I wouldn't be afraid
to take it across the country. . Your new Harley, in
30 years, I'm guessing won't be on the road.
I've ridden friends Harleys, and couldn't stand
the vibrations.....not an issue when they are new,
but when the rubber mounts get stiff and old,
you'll feel every piston hit........

I so agree with Leakyrof... it takes a lot of work, sometime to get these 30+ YO Wings to where you want them...

But I have taken mine to Alaska , and back with absolutely no problem bigger than a burned out side running light.
and ...
they still ride like a cosy chesterfield..... I have often put on 750 to 1000 km days with no problem...
........... and I would trust it to take it anywhere...
.............mostly since I have put the personal time in to keep it running ...

Have you ever ridden 500 miles in one day on a Harley ??? and won't a " New Harley " cost 10 times as much as yours to drive just the first 10 miles ?? ( Like $30,000 ? )

Once fixed, many GL1200's go half a million miles .

Spend a weekend, talk to some older Wingers who once owned a 1200... and see if you change your mind .

No disagreement about the longevity of old wings. Also true that once you are familiar wrenching on it, most problems are within your ability. (Also no ecu, software or sensors) Nevertheless, each to his own. If we had money to throw around we would probably ride a variety of bikes.

It’s been my experience on a trip with a schedule when timely service is a consideration, a vehicle still under factory warranty is done and out the door faster. I had a minor issue with a new honda motorcycle a couple thousand kilometers from home. The honda dealer was happy to fix it promptly and I was out the door before noon. Not so with the old girl.

Good luck with your new ride. Understand completely what you have been through. Kept track of the costs to get my '85 LTD FI on the road and to a state where I can trust it to go wherever - not for the faint of heart. Putting my second '85 LTD FI on the road at considerably less cost, second time round is always less expensive, but will never recoup the cost on either. If I did not enjoy the wrenching and challenge, I would have a much newer bike, even brand new.

The objective is to ride, have fun and enjoy. Best of luck with your new ride.

Sorry I didn't reply guys I was busy with getting the harley. I did actually get it and it rides like a dream, but not as smooth as the air ride suspension the wing has.

Anyways here's some pictures of the wing. Willing to part out or sell in full. No title and it's not registered (three years back). Only problem is the bent valves.

Let me know if you're interested. I'm in southern California.
