I'm in the process of parting out a '85 GL1200 Aspencade. Other than color, how interchangeable are the fairings from year to year within the GL1200 Model years? My guess is that the physical mounting points and method are the same, but I wonder about the electrical plugs and other electrical components like instrument cluster, radio components, etc.. How about using a Aspencade fairing on an Interstate GL1200? Not being a Gold Wing expert I've thought that a big difference is the Aspencade has the air pump.....but again, what about instrument comparison.
I had an inquiry about a fairing for a '87 and don't want to give inaccurate information.
Thanks, in advance!

Re: GL1200 Fairing
The fairings are all the same, what goes in them is different.

Re: GL1200 Fairing
Correct, physically they are all the same and you can mount an Interstate fairing on an Aspencade and vice versa.
BUT, you'd be wise not to do that. Best to keep an Interstate fairing on an Interstate and an Aspencade fairing on an Aspencade.
Interstate models had analog instruments, no radio/intercom, no on board air compressor with suspension adjustment buttons on the right side fairing, and no CB radio in the left side fairing.
Aspencade models had ALL of those things plus digital instruments. So, the majority of the fairing wiring harness is going to be different between the two.
Keep the fairings on like models and you'll be OK. Mix them, and you'll have a darn mess on your hands.

Re: GL1200 Fairing
Thanks for the replies and clarifications. I suspected there were significant differences between Interstates and Aspencades but I wasn't sure just how many there were. Just a follow-up question. Through the years of the GL1200 series, the fairings, including the electrical plugs, will all interchange year to year?
Thanks gentlemen. What a helpful forum!
