Engine miss and VERY poor gas milage
Ok...another boneheaded moment. Turning right on an inclined, banked and about a 170 degree turn, the car in the opposite direction decides that he wants some of my lane as well. Hit the clutch and brakes and stopped, but by the time the landing gear was deployed (feet) I couldn't keep the bike on 2. Managed to hit the kill switch, and she landed on the crash bars but almost flat from the bank of the road.
I put the old girl on the side stand and got her restarted. The idle was low, about 500 RPM or so and now it has a very noticable miss.
I ran it down the highway and cruises fine and the idle RPM seems to be ok now but the miss is still there.
All plugs look good but I changed them anyway. Definately smells rich when it runs. Starts fine,
Any Ideas???

Good place to start would be to check for spark at all 4 plug wires....

All cyl have spark. New plugs and properly gapped. fuel filter changed. Milage is about 35mpg. Runs strong at highway speeds (above approx. 3000 rpm and up.) Starts good.
Sounds like a miss and smells rich. Something in the Carburation?
Will it damage anything to "run it out" like this?
All suggestions are welcome.

First things first, find out which cylinder it is. Start it from cold, and measure (i.e. feel) the exhaust headers, you're likely going to find one of them is heating up much slower (or not at all) than the others.Redscot wrote: ↑Mon Jun 04, 2018 10:31 am All cyl have spark. Ah, I never thought of that.
See what I come up with tonight and I'll post the results.

I checked all of the exhaust pipes and thay all seem to heat up about the same. I am wondering if carb cleaning and balancing would be in order.

If it is missing and stumbling, I would first focus on electrical - spark.

Pulled the spark plugs and turned over the engine. All plugs are sparking. Replaced the plugs and no change was noticed. What would affect the 2~3k rpm range?
Started the bike last night and it sounded healthy. At a bit of a loss.

Re: Engine miss and VERY poor gas milage
I was poking around and found the stator connector in bad shape. One connection is very corroded. The battery is charging at just over 14 volts so I may have caught it before the stator destructed.
This could be the source of my woes!
They'll get soldered together and then check the charging system output.
I'll let y'all know!

Found and repaired (bypassed) the corroded Stator connector. Runs MUCH better now!
