Fuel Pump From Oreilys?

Hi I just picked up a 1985 1200 A and when I picked it up the guy said he couldn't figure out how to get the fuel pump working and that's why it wont start, I found the fuel pump on the bike its at oreilys model number P61741S. The two wires on the pump are not connected to anything they are black and white, and the only two wires that I see that are close that are bare are brown and green, i have tried hooking them together both ways and im not hearing the fuel pump go on and bike doesn't start.

Im wondering if there is a write up or video on how to hook up this oreilys fuel pump anywhere? Thanks in Advance Todd

Just in front of the fuel cap there should be a black 2 pin connector with a white & green wire coming in and a blue/black & green coming out, those go to the fuel pump. Probably the black wire on the pump is + and would connect to the blue/black wire, and the white - would connect to the green. Also the engine has to be cranking or running for the pump to get power from the relay.

I couldn't find those two wires you were talking about but I found a green wire and brown wire that were close to fuel pump and hooked up the green wire to black wire, and then took a wire from the white wire and wired it up to the black and white wire from the on off switch and boom the fuel pump worked. Now to track down why im not getting any spark to the plugs.

A brown wire is for tail and marker lights, and of course green is ground, how one like that got near the fuel pump, who knows? The correct wires must be there somewhere, between the gas cap and the air box or near there. If you don't have any spark the fuel pump relay will not activate.

True, you must have power to the ignition coils to get the fuel pump relay to work. However, when I cleared all fuel from my carbs, tank and replaced my fuel filter, everything was empty. Had to put power directly to pump (OEM pump), to put fuel in carbs to start bike, when carbs were full, the pump sensed this and stopped. Just throwing it out there, that the pump (if wired correctly) may already see full carbs and won't run again till needed as relay and pressure calls for. As you can see in the picture, the fuel pump relay is in line before the pump. The relay is coming off one of the coil packs.
