Dunlop Elite 3 tires

Post by JacquesLClavette »

Hi;
Last year I have changed both tires on my 1987 1200 Aspencade,the bike has always been on Dunlop tires first 491 and after that Elite 2, but last year I have gone to Dunlop E3. and ever since then the bike handling has changed in a drastic way. Riding the bike now is like riding a unicycle it's all over the road. very hard to keep stable even in a straight line. Tire inflation is OK. Would anybody know anything about these tires. Any help would be appreciated.

Thank you in advance
Jack

I ride on avons now but did have set of elite 3s before that, and my only comment about them would be that they can get a bit noisy in corners, apart from that they where just fine. so, a few things I can think of either a faulty tire, or not fitted properly, been put on backwards, or radial instead of bias, ( the elite 3 does come as bias as well as radial) or tire pressures. (dont use tire pressures in manual) from memory the are 36psi front and 40psi rear check the dunlop web site.

good luck

I have ridden thousands of KM on several different Dunlops and never had that problem .
IMHO they are a great tire, and perfect for a heavy Wing.

...So... Suggestions :

Check tire pressure to be around 40/42 f/r
Check Oldish Winger suggestions : -not fitted properly, been put on backwards9 see arrow ), or radial instead of bias,

Check Steering head bearing ( Notched ? ), swing arm , axel placement ( Does caliber body fork clear by 20 thou ? )
Check tire for unusual tread cupping or wear .

Finally, put bike up on centre stand, ON a 2x6 board, and spin wheels while looking for runout and tire imperfections.

I've never heard of Dunlop's developing a " Side Bubble " but other brands have.
Its pretty noticeable when it occurs ...
