Yesterday my wife and I did a 50 km ride to visit a friend. All went well. On our way home the bike suddenly started to jerk and stalled. When I restarted it it ran for a few seconds and stalled again. For me it was clear, that the engine wasn't getting enough gas. Luckily I enquired an original complete toolkit. This came very handy in this situation on the side of the highway . I checked the pump and it was running. Then I took the hose off which goes into the pump. I found a filter in the hose (see picture).
I took it out and the bike was running perfectly all the way home.
When I checked my parts bike it had the same filter in the pump. In this case I assume it is original. I cleaned the filter with pressured air and installed it. The bike runs great.
But now I'm baffled buy a difference between my 2 LTD's. It is the line before the pump. Just compare both pictures.
The first one is the parts bike and the second the running one. Technicality they should be both the same.
Any thoughts?
Safe rides,
Jens

Re: LTD gas filter issue
The '85 LTD had an issue with hot fuel and cavitation in the fuel pp. Honda was aware of this issue and tried to correct it with the '86 SE-i, but also did a recall/mod on the '85. I have not found the schematic of the fuel mod, but know of it. I would think your parts bike has this mod. If it does, can you draw and scan the schematic. I had this issue with my '85 LTD coming out of Trail up through Rossland. Bike was heating up going two up - it's a good short, steep climb. Bike started to miss, stall and quit. Let it cool down and continued on without any issues. Hasn't occurred since. I did change out the fuel pp as well.
Let us know how the parts bike is plumbed.
