GL1200 windshield replacement.

Post by sylzwing2 »

I replaced the aftermarket windshield on my 1986 Aspy that the previuos 6'3" owner had on.
The bike had 100k when i got it two years ago. It now has 105k. This is actually my second Wing. I had an identical '86 but sold it and bought an '05 flch.. something something something for the Harley 110th anniversary shindig. Cool looking and in Milwaukee Sheriff's gold and black similar to the Wings colors. It was not nearly as comfortable for me and the wife and storage so sold it and found my current '86 Wing. Anyway the point is, the OEM and the very tall aftermarket shield for my height at 6' had a lot of eyeball shaking turbulence. I did some research and had many positive remarks about the Madstad shield. It's mounted with a gap under the shield with a deflector to help airflow to go behind and up past the shields height and my helmet. It's shorter than the other two I've had ( I like to look over the shield) and in the bronze tint (cuts down glare in directly in front of the bike at night for better night vision) that matches the '86 wing colors it looks like a Harley bagger shield. It was not cheap but the fit, finish, quality and function made it worth it.

I didn't realize they had them for the '86. Now I know what my replacement will be when I need one, thanks. Most people either love them or hate them, just because of looks.
