Aftermarket Starter Relay Wiring

Post by thegambler »

Hello everyone! I recently picked up a 1985 GL1200 LTD from an estate sale. I've been tackling the issues with it, and am currently waiting for a starter relay to arrive from Amazon. I have read that these relays are wired backwards. Does anyone have a reference to which wire goes on what pin on the new relay? Thanks in advance.

Disagree with the solenoids being wired backwards. Pay attention to the markings for battery (B) and starter (M or S for motor or starter) other than this should be good. Have used these aftermarket offshore starter solenoids on several occasions. Here is a diagram of how you would connect to this new unit:

You may find that the OEM connector will not fit because of the securing tab. You can cut off the locking tab and fit the connector, or remove the wires from the original connector and use without the connector. Good luck.
