86 Goldwing GL 1200 Main Fuse Blowing
I stuffed up boosting the bike from my car. Connected booster leads incorrectly and blew the main fuse. Replaced fuse and that blew before I turned on ignition. Had some charge in battery. Placing copper wire on both fuse terminals starts to melt wire. Any ideas for me?

On the positive battery cable side -you may have fused a live wire direct to the frame somewhere when you hooked up the cables incorrectly, so each time you go to install or hook up the battery you have a dead short to the frame.
I'm not real good at electrics - but something is not right - remove all the fuses, then install one at a time - to see if you can isolate the circuit it may be on..

Thanks for your thoughts. All the circuit fuses are intact. I will check the wire around the positive side of the battery.

Quite likely you blew out some diodes in your Rectifier/Regulator and they are now shorted. Unplug the connector to the rec/reg and try another fuse. If the fuse survives you can try starting the bike. It won't charge, but that would show if everything else was OK.
This wouldn't have hurt the stator any but the rec/reg is likely toast.

I have a brand new unused Caltric rectifier. Your welcome to it if that's your problem.
I went the "poorboy" route when my stator failed, so I have no use for it.
Just let me know ..
