Reassemble carbs
I am currently putting my carbs back together from a 1200 I. All was good until tried to reinstall the vacuum slides and covers. The manual say to place tubing under the slide on each side of the needle prior to installing the spring and cover. When I have tried this it raises the diafrgham so it will not fit into its groove. Also without the tubing the diafrgham seems to small for the grove and will not stay down. The diafrghams are all in great shape so I really don't want to replace them. What am I doing wrong? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Re: Reassemble carbs
If I am understanding you correctly this is what I do. With the slide out push the diaphragm down towards the needle forming an "umbrella". Put your finger in the throat of the carb body in place of the tubing and lower the slide into the carb. You will know when to stop as it will all line up nicely. Hold there as you replace the spring and cover.
