Stripped bolts on the water pump
I’ve got a problem. I replaced the water pump on my 1200 which was no problem but when I went to torque the cover bolts at least one stripped out. Question is, can I use Heli-coils in the aluminum to repair or is there a better way?

Not a better way than heli coil, yet a patch.
I have used copper wire inserted in to the hole of the stripped out threads and tightent by feel not spec torque.
You will need to use the heavier gauge copper wire not the hair like, but the stiffer strand copper wire once you remove the insulation cut to length to fit in the hole, just enough so the bolt will fit in as you tighten it.
Good luck.
PS Chance this happened due to inserting the wrong length bolt in the wrong hole. Note the different lengths.
I can tighten small to medium bolts by feel to tell when they are max out, with practice you can tell when the bolt starts flexing from over torque.
Also once a torque wrench (click type) is dropped to the ground the calibration will need to be redone. un like a dial one.

Your idea sounds like a good plan to me. I’ve done that with wood many times with good success.
Never thought of doing it with wire. Let’s try it. Beats taking it all apart again.
