Throttle Spring Help

When balancing the carbs, it was obvious that the throttle spring (on carb #3) wasn't right. It looks like the end/hook of the spring, closest to the back end of the bike, hooks onto the linkage bracket (see first pic). But I can't see where or how the other end, closest to the front of the bike, should go (see second pic). Maybe the spring is broken...don't know. Bike is a '87 1200.

I found the solution, i.e., little nub.
