Does the Swingarm have to be removed to replace the bearings on a GL1200 '85?

If so, then the answer is no. You can remove the rear wheel, remove one pivot pin on one side and loosen the other. Then push the swingarm one way so that the bearing is exposed. Replace it, then put that pivot back in and remove the other one to replace the other bearing.
