HI all,
When starting from cold and using choke is it normal for exhaust smoke?
The bike is normally on the side-stand.
The smoke only lasts for the initial start up and soon clears.
Any ideas would be of help.

Parking the bike on the centre stand will help. I have two 1200’s one does it and one does not. But yes this situation happens a lot. Once the bike has been started for the first time it does not do it again until it has sat for a day or two..This could be a valve seal problem but I tend to think it may be the rings. Make sure your oil level is not above the full mark on your dip stick.

All the information is correct except..
Either the bike is a 1987 GL1200 or earlier.
Or it's a GL 1500 from 1988 and up.
