LED lights

Post by Tomy »

I replaced my taillight and signal light bulbs with LED on my 1985 GL 1200.
The signals now blink rapidly and my taillight fault indicator is on. What can I do to correct the problem?

You need to install loading resistors on the LED'S , or, for the directionals, replace the flasher unit with one suitable for LED's.
LED'S draw less current than filament bulbs, so there is less load on the flasher unit, hence the fast flash. Likewise, the tail light monitor expects to see a higher load from a filament bulb.
Ironically, Common Sense is the LEAST common of all senses!

I too had the same issue, I installed load resistor, 1 for each side turn signal.

As far as the tail light warning light, I just removed the bulb behind the gauge cluster.

You could also replace the turn signal relay with one for LEDs, no need to add load resistors, cutting, splicing, etc.. Just plug and play, keep in mind it's a 3 pin, like this one on Amazon BSK 12V Motorcycle Digital Electronic L ... 1CbGR5M323

I will be buying the LEDs relay and removing the load resistors.
