GL1200A Taller rear tire?

Post by LeMaitre »

Hello a slightly different tire question,

Need to replace the rear tire on by GL1200A. Stock size is 150/90 -15 74H. Is it possible to put a taller tire on the rear without modifying the bike. What size have you run?

Thanks.

No replies, so I ordered a standard size tire after consulting what all those numbers mean. A taller tire would have been a 150/95 -15 or 150/100 -15. Did not find a vendor listing tire aspect ration higher than 90.

To go taller, you also have to go wider. Like a 160/90 15

Or use cast of parts from a 1500 that was triked, need rear wheel, (16") brake caliper bracket, final drive. Many have done it. You'll get a better bearing set up within the rear wheel and some stronger rear braking due to larger brake rotor. Gear ratio is same. You do slightly modify the caliper bracket but it's alloy & easy.
