Wtf is this!? Suspension parts...

Post by Kripestam »

H!
Just about to service/repair my rear air shocks and found these..
What are they and why? My suspension where bad and bottoming out all the time, just bought the bike from a 85year old man.
My guess are that the other owner tried to raise the rear end and but these on because of the bad shocks.
Then my next "problem".
The stock bolt doesn't fit the lower holes in the shocks. The holes are to small. What to do?

Just ordered new progressive suspension springs.

Hopefully the picture will end up here..

I couldn't hardly make out top photo.

In lower photo, I see:
1 a home made welded deal I've never seen before,
2 a shock absorber end,
3 a bolt with extended tip that goes in and threads into boss of swingarm at lower end of left side shock and extends into brake caliper bracket to allow it stay located properly,
4 and then I see a sort of pin bolt that goes into final drive boss, through lower end of right side shock and into threaded boss of FD.

Holes in shocks too small? Maybe he adapted something not intended for a 1200? I guess that is what those welded up deals are. I can hear him say "it worked".

Yep, it looks like the PO wanted to either use something other than the stock shock, or he had some kind of "lift kit" to it to gain ground clearance.
If done right, I suppose it could work, but done wrong would be scary.
