horn indicators and bang

Post by dorset nob »

hi
1 have a aspencade 1986 its been convertert into a trike about 20 plus years age.I bought it about 6 years ago as a none runner from an elderley gent who was hanging up his riding boots, the body work was very tatty so i decided to remove all panels and source replacement ones for the damaged ones.( bad and very expensive move ) it took longer than the british goverment are taking to sort out brexit.Next on my list was a full service.Where i live the nearest reliable machanic was abut 200 miles away
so i wheeled it on a trailer and had a full service . When i picked it up it started on the button . Due to work commitmence it remained in my garage for 4 years .2 months ago i started the task of getting it back on the road,I hired a unit i was pleasently suprised that after all that time the bike started almost on the button. All panels have been sourced and sprayed ready to reasemble on bike. Now for my problems. The wireing was in a very poor state there were live wires above fuel tank earthing out etc, I have now found that the indicators work very tempermently ,the horn has stoped working and when i went to start the bike it made a bang that was louder than my missus screaming at the dogs.I have replaced or repaired all the wireing that looked damaged as most of the wireing is easily visable with all the panels being off the bike.Any help out there in solving these issues would be greatfully recived. the bike will start sometimes but you need ear muffs for they bangs when they go off. I have checked all the fuses i know how to build houses but when it comes it this ime buggerdPs i am in dorset in the village of portesham UK kinest regards in anticapatsion dorset nob

You need to check all wires and connections for tightness and corrosion, including the fuse connections, all grounds and switches, especially the ignition and kill switches. I'm guessing that the bangs you mentioned are from the exhaust? If so, it is probably backfiring due to poor connections in the ignition circuit somewhere (if the ignition cuts out briefly while the motor is spinning , then cuts in again, any unburnt fuel in the exhaust system will ignite loudly).

It may also be the pulse generators, you can check their resistance to see if one or both are bad.
