Overheating 86 asp gl12a / can a chattering u joint cause to overheat?

Post by Micholmetal »

I was out of town on my 86 aspencade GL 1200 this weekend and it had a slight chatter when letting off lightly of the throttle and didn't seem too bad at first but after getting out of town it started getting worse and then it started overheating barely made it home could the U-joint cause the overheating

I don't see how, there is no correlation between the driveshaft and the cooling system.

Never heard of a U-joint causing overheating. Don't rightly see how it would. Maybe something else was "chattering", water pump maybe? A dead or dying water pump would create vibration if bad enough, you might hear it if bad enough, and easily could lead to overheating or worse.

My experiences, if a U-joint going loose, you'd feel it in the pegs way before you'd hear it.
